she flipped the script and changed the story

Hello Beautiful Being!

I am Dr. Jen Gellock…a spoken word artist, transformational guide, resident hospital chaplain, and the founder of Inward Athlete. I left my position as a full-time assistant professor of sport management in May of 2023 to step fully into the most expressed version of myself. The one mission in all the work that I do is to help shift others back home to their hearts.

At the age of thirty-one, I experienced emotional burnout from a highly dysregulated nervous system after living most of my life with unmanaged chronic stress and cycles of anxiety and depression. For too many years, I fought against myself, and became emotionally, physically, mentally, and became spiritually exhausted from trudging through the resistance of modern life. Then in the summer of 2020, I awakened and surrendered to a path of doing years of inner work that have transformed my life from the inside-out with a divine force and source leading me every step of the way.

My work empowers individuals to step into the fullest expression of themselves in this lifetime. In sharing my poetry, facilitating workshops, and work with personal clients I use a range of mindfulness tools that activate personal and collective transformational experiences. I take a holistic mind/body/emotional/spirit-led approach in all the work that I do. I facilitate with poetry, guided-writing, visualization, energy work, universal law, and intuitive leadership guidance.

I have completed coursework and certifications to become a trauma informed practitioner, mental health first aid responder, spiritual guide with a focus in grief counseling, and experiential teaching and inclusive educator. Before embarking on the path of entrepreneurship, I spent four years as an Assistant Professor of Sport Management at the University of Tampa and University of North Alabama after receiving my PhD in Sport Leadership in 2019 from Virginia Commonwealth University. I have taught courses in Sport Leadership, Management, Sociology of Sport, and Psychology of Coaching. Before becoming a professor, I worked in college athletics supporting the academic and holistic development of Division I college athletes and coached Division II women’s basketball while completing my MBA in Sport Business in 2014. I graduated from the University of Tampa with her bachelor's in physical education in 2012 and am a native of Westfield Massachusetts. I am a lover of pizza, cats, and 80’s movies.

Thank you for being here - I can’t wait to connect more with you!

xoxo - Jen
